In Einstein’s theory of general relativity, gravity is caused by the presence of mass. Generally, the more mass the greater the curvature of spacetime. In certain circumstances, accelerating mass generates changes in the curvature of spacetime, which propagate outwards at the speed of light in a wave-like manner. These propagating phenomena are known as gravitational waves. Scientists have demonstrated the existence of these waves with detectors provided by the LIGO and VIRGO observatories.
In September 1985 the Hebrew University in Israel insisted that American artist Bob Camblin, “cease and desist from further use of all Albert Einstein characterizations…and you must destroy your (stock of Einstein paintings) immediately.”
In celebration of the detection of gravity waves – and in tribute to Albert Einstein – please enjoy these writings/cartoons sent by Bob Camblin to the Hebrew University with love and affection, entitled, “The Unwritten and Untold Story of Big Al.”
